Criticism of the Sun Java Certification Process

There are those in the IT industry who are critical of the sun java certification as a testament to one's aptitude and ability to blossom and grow in the IT field. This criticism is based on the exam process itself which is seen as being too straightforward with an emphasis on syntax and error detection. They are useful as a tool to diagnose weakness in general knowledge and understanding of Java. The over emphasis on passing tests and cramming for them is not conducive to ongoing professional growth.
